Fishbone - "Truth and Soul"

I really love this album. There's not much else to say. Part funk, part ska, part new wave, part punk, part hair metal (yes), and part comedy. Fishbone is awesome, but an acquired taste. I got this on cassette a few years ago from the aforementioned neighbor. It's like a Sublime made of real, live black people! (I hope that didn't sound racist, I'm just not down with whiteboy reggae.) Fishbone are an amazing band and I was lucky enough to see them a few Halloweens ago. If there's a band that you should listen to while dressed as Tank Girl and being the only minor in a crowd of too-friendly drunk old men and University students, Fishbone is probably it. Their shows don't turn out a lot of people, but this album contains their two huge singles "Ma and Pa" and "Freddie's Dead." This is a great starter for a really esoteric, underrated band.

Akiakane - "Kasumisou"

Okay, so it's no surprise that I'm a total sucker for ladies in punk rock. This time up to bat, we've got Chiba, Japan's Akiakane. I first heard of this band on Asian Man Records' Plea For Peace vol 2. These little girls are FIRECRACKERS, and I love it. Imagine if the Powerpuff Girls started a punk band! Okay, maybe that was a tad general, but I swear this is exactly what it would sound like! If that doesn't appeal to you, fine. But you're missing out.

Yeah, I know. No posts in over ten days? I'm an asshole, because this isn't even a music post. It's an AGENDA.

A] I'll print/ship patches to anywhere in the US for $1(or less) each and anywhere else for $2(or less) each. I need money and I have an excess of time and printing supplies. I have an album of my printwork and am always up for a challenge! No, these are not embroidered patches, they are screen-printed lovingly by hand. <333

B] Over the next month or so, I'm assembling a zine called 'Pink Bits.' It's going to have submissions from all over the country and a couple from the UK. If you've got artwork, poetry, short stories, album reviews, anything, just send them to me and I'll make sure they get included. Although there is no definitive topic for the collection, I'd like if a certain percentage were about human/woman/animal/immigrant rights. I also need a LOT more art, so feel free to draw something fucking stupid as Hell. Submissions are due no later than the end of May. All contributors get ten free copies of the zine with card stock covers and inserts. If you wanna get involved, shoot me a message HERE and I'll give you contact info.
