Blatz - "A Touch of..."

Blatz is a band that you either love or hate. Touted by many as "the worst band ever," they're named after "the worst beer ever." Released on Lookout! Records in 1990 as a split LP with FILTH, this is ONLY the Blatz side. It contains a FEAR cover, screechy and abrasive lady vocals, and very little talent. If I had to throw together a description it would be "Cleveland Bound Death Sentence gets drunk, takes some downers, and shits itself while playing singalongs." Yes, there's a high likelihood that you will hate this, but if you're more about fun and Gilman St. History, go for it! (Sidenote: A local band, Cizana, does a bitchin' cover of Berkeley is My Baby)

V/A - "Skamikaze!"

Much to my chagrin, information on this album isn't terribly available. This is a Japanese ska compilation heavy on beer and distortion. The sound ranges from third wave pop to channeling FEAR's "New York's Alright." It's mostly in English with a couple of exceptions. As a connoisseur of both compilations and foreign ska music, this makes me indescribably happy. Skamikaze is twenty-one tracks of the Japanese teaching us stupid Gaijin that ska's not dead. This is probably the most punk-accessible thing I've posted so far, so enjoy it. Pardon me for the brief description, but it's very simply a kickass foreign ska comp that'll make you want to pick it up, even if you don't speak Japanese. (Sidenote: Don't confuse this with the California band that totally ripped this title off)

Logh - Four Albums

I'm not too familiar with this band, but my friend eD requested some of their stuff calling it "interesting sad, old bastard music." Sounds good enough for me! Wikipedia says they're post-rock/shoegaze, both good genres. They're labelmates with looptroop, who I was introduced to a couple of years ago by a friend who was deep into hip-hop. Okay, that was off topic. Back to the point: This is everything minus the Contractor + Assassin EP (a veritable discLOGHraphy, if you will). If you plan on snagging this, you might want to go to the bathroom or pick up a book, because (due to filesize) this bugger's gonna take awhile on any connection.

Minor Threat - "Salad Days EP"

This is, in my opinion, the best album of all time! DC hardcore band Minor Threat ushered in the age of more melodic posthardcore with the release of this 7". This three-song, out-of-print EP is the bridge between the Teen Idles/Minor Threat era and the Fugazi/Embrace era. Yes, it isn't as in your face, but it's still Minor Threat, it's still on Dischord, and it still rocks my face off! If this isn't on the list of albums that changed your life, there's something very obviously wrong with you. The insert to this album, the lyrics, the cover photo, everything about this is pure iconography of the golden age of DCHC.

Printing on Fabric, A Tutorial

I got tired of people asking me how I make all of my patches and tee shirts, so I made a tutorial over at eHow. If you use this method or have any questions, don't hesitate to comment/e-mail me. Happy stencilling!

Bark Bark Bark - "Worst Dotted Line EP"

Bark Bark Bark used to be a Gameworks Studios/The Living Room Staple. I remember seeing these guys on a weekly basis as a two-piece when I was fifteen years old. The lineup featured on this album has disbanded and now only one guy, Jacob remains. At the core, this is pure, shameless, potentially homoerotic electroclash. I'm not a big fan of the way this band sounds now, but I still ride around in cars yelling these words like it's nobody's business. To be honest, there's not much to write because they're not making this music anymore. You should expect a bunch of synth loops, catchy hooks, and rump-shaking lyrics reminiscent of The Bloodhound Gang. Sidenote: This isn't the real album artwork, but I was too lazy to rifle around and dig it up.

Zombina & The Skeletones - "A Chainsaw For Christmas EP"

Do you ever find yourself wondering what would happen if you mixed b-movies, the day of our Lord, psychobilly, bubblegum pop, and a bass player named Cthulu? Okay, me neither, but apparently the product is kickass! Zombina and the Skeletones are a Liverpool band who seems to be pretty popular on MySpace nowadays. They released this online-only EP as a free gift to their street team (lucky me!). Their sound could best be described as "Horrorpops lite." I know, Christmas music and shameless pop won't really appeal to the punk-rock crowd, but this is a guilty pleasure. The lead singer is pretty easy on the eyes and ears, so you should at least give it a try. If you're into The Meteors and other psychobilly bands, this might not be your thing, but they have a HUGE catalogue of EPs, all of which I'm totally apeshit gaga over.

Sleepytime Gorilla Museum - "In Glorious Times"

Part metal, part avant-garde artrock, Sleepytime Gorilla Museum is fairly unclassifiable as a band. They've got handmade instruments, a steampunkesque faux history, about thirty side projects, and they're WAY better than the Dresden Dolls could ever be! Think orchestral Mr. Bungle, throw in a spatula player for good measure, and you've got the weird-ass arrangements of SGM. This is the most recent album, released on (or course) The End Records. Please don't let them being labelmates with Dir En Grey disappoint you, they've got nothing else in common!!! (Sidenote: This was ganked from my boyfriend, who has probably the weirdest musical taste of anyone I've ever known!)

Angelo Moore is Dr. Madd Vibe presents "The Yin Yang Thang"

For those familiar with Fishbone, Angelo Moore's voice should be unmistakable! I scored this album when I saw Fishbone two Octobers ago at the Rialto Theatre here in Tucson. In case you're wondering, Angelo is a really sweet guy and even gave me a copy of his comic book gift-pack free. Released in 2000 on Mike Park's Asian Man Records, this album is part hip-hop, part rap, part funk, part beat poetry, and part stoned rambling from Mr. Moore's ridiculous alter-ego. I'll be honest, this one may not be for everyone, but if you're crazy enough to listen to Fishbone, you're crazy enough to listen to this.

Howdy, y'all! My name is Ace and I started up this blog to expose people to bands they might not be familiar with. If you wanna co-author, hit me up via Myspace or LJ. I'm hoping to have five albums or EPs a day of high-quality CD, vinyl, or tape rips. Most files will be in iTunes-accessible m4a format, but occasionally I'll post WMA or mp3 files for those of you who use other software. ALL FILES are password-protected and the password is included in the post.

I LOVE TRADING LINKS. IF YOU WANT TO BE FEATURED ON THE SIDEBAR, JUST ASK!
